Dear Parents/Friends

It is only today that we have received confirmation that the full members of the county council will be discussing the closure of Hermon School during their full meeting this Thursday 17/07/03 at 10.00 am in Haverfordwest. By now a letter has been sent to all members outlining the strong arguments for retaining Hermon Community school – a copy of the letter can be viewed on website www.hermonglogue.co.uk also a letter has now been sent to our solicitor outlining the strong educational arguments over retaining Hermon school and the financial, community and social benefits of keeping the school open for the inhabitants of Hermon, Glog and Llanfyrnach. If any parents are free to travel to the meeting please do so but I must note that the agenda for the morning is full where you might have to wait for over an hour before our item is debated, at least this time we know that there are supporters within the council who will speak for us. But we must realise the independent majority members will undoubtedly support the cabinet as they will be too uneasy of possible cabinet retaliation against their constituents future proposals for developments within their area.

So to move ahead with the Campaign – now is the time to ask anyone and every one who is willing to object the closure to send in their objection letters. Under the statutory notice of closure the council stated that “anyone person” could object, but of course we have to put forward the strong arguments. These argument again can be viewed on the above website where we must ask the council to change the policy and build a 130 area school in Crymych and not a 180 one thus leaving Hermon in peace. Please ask everyone to send their letters by the 180/08/03 to Gerson Davies, Pembrokeshire County Council, County Hall, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

In order to secure further resource for our fight a Campaign Fund has now been opened under a LloydsTSB Bank account called: Ymgyrch - Ysgol Hermon – Campaign: Sort Code 30-91-95 : Account Number 0806593. Any one wishing to donate anonymously may pay straight into the account or alternatively send any donations to the school or to my address at: Pantyrysgol, Hermon, Y Glog, Sir Benfro. SA36 0DT. We will be using the funds to arrange adverts in the Western Telegraph to ask people to officially object and to produce promotional banners and literature.

Since the summer school holidays are now upon us could I kindly ask all parents and friends who are on e-mail to send me your e-mail addresses where a parents e-mail group can receive regular bulletins over the summer. Please send to my e-mail address crisalona@members.v21.co.uk

Yr eiddoch yn gywir, Yours Sincerely
